Back in 1925 when Coral Gables was just beginning, someone built 2 houses, exactly the same size, separated by a gated courtyard on one lot. It’s 1750 sq ft of living space on a 6827 sq. ft lot. Because this was built before the city had zoning this is a legal duplex in a single family home zone. It’s very quiet. The street is only 2 blocks long with no through traffic.
From the street all you see is high hedges, the house fronts and the gated courtyard. The courtyard has a fountain, flowers, and rose trellises. In 1211, the second bedroom has been converted into a dining area, making the property a 3 bedroom, 2 bath. Both houses have working fireplaces, hardwood floors, high ceilings, and lots of windows. It’s very bright and airy. My husband and I use the property as a single family home but you could rent one or both sides of course. An added bonus is that Coral Gables is 15-20 minutes from Miami International Airport
I have lived here 17 years and the property has been rigorously maintained. Of course it’s great for parties. We particularly like doing BBQ’s at dusk in the yard with the Tiki Torches. Lounging on the bed in 1211 watching the birds come to drink and bath in the backyard pond is pretty special too!
It’s been a joy to live here! Coral Gables has been designated as a “Tree City USA” practically since its founding with splendid old trees and lush landscaping. Go to the home page of the City of Coral Gables —click on departments—then parks & recreation for all the parks, golf courses, tennis courts and facilities. Here are links for other landmarks in town such as: The University of Miami, The Village of Merrick Park Shopping Center, The Biltmore Hotel, The Venetian Pool, and Fairchild Tropical Garden.
I love taking an early morning bike ride around the neighborhood, all the leafy green and the flowers, with the birds twittering away. At certain points on the route you ride through a cloud of perfume from the flowers! Or the Venetian pool, gorgeous with natural spring water and great for doing laps in a beautiful setting. The city also has a very nice gym that is dirt cheap for residents.
Click on the links at the top of the page to stroll through the houses and gardens to decide if this fits the bill as your little piece of paradise! If you are interested, come take a look!!
